The second segment on breastfeeding on the Channel 7 (ABC) Chicago area news
ran on Monday night -- I, of course, being a day late (and generally more
than a dollar short), saw it last night. Overall, not too bad. A nice plug
for Amoco's pumping room complete with Ameda-Egnell pumps. A shot of an LC
weighing a baby with all its clothes on (??). Over the course of the two
days, several nice shots of moms breastfeeding. Marianne Neifert talking
about 2-5% of moms who simply can't breastfeed because they can't make enough
milk. (?) Great stuff on the bennies of breastfeeding for both mom & baby --
I liked this part especially, because there was not only voice-over, it was
PRINTED on the screen. And the bennies of bf to the baby were MANY -- not
the usual one or two. And they did say at the end of the listing, "and many
more." BUT (you knew there had to be one, didn't you?) they then had a
segment with Peggy Robins, author of the (in)famous book, Bottle Feeding
Without Guilt. That piece, of course, did a lot to negate all the good they
had done. And of course, they ended with some smarmy statement about, "in
the end, only you can decide what is best for your child when it comes to
breast or bottle feeding." As though that is something you really have to
think about. Uck.

By the way, if anyone wants to find the copy of Bottle Feeding w/o guilt at
the bookstore near me, it's behind "Learning to Speak Arabic."

Jan Barger (who isn't giving her city in case someone goes to rescue the book
& put it back in its place.)
