Ann Robb asked:
       > Please correct me if I'm mistaken, but freshly expressed breastmilk
can be kept at room temp for up to 10 hours and that was bc they stopped the
test at ten, not bc it suddenly went bad, correct? But what about thawed milk?
       > I ask because the question I get(on this topic) most frequently is
about the thawed breastmilk, warmed in a bottle, half drunk -- can you keep
that or do you have to dump it... should it be refridgerated before the next
feeding or would the cooling/reheating do more harm than leaving it sit at
room temp...

Anne, part of the information you are looking for can be found in the
Feb/Mar '97 issue of LEAVEN, on page 4. It states that:

*If milk has been frozen and thawed,it can be refrigerated for up to 24hours
for later use. It should not be refrozen.*

As far as I know, no studies have been done on how long it is safe to keep a
half-drunk bottle of milk. There was a discussion about this on Lactnet a few months
ago. I usually suggest that mothers store their milk in small quantities - 2-3oz -
so that wastage is minimal. This would make a great research project. Any takers?
