Isn't it interesting that the culture of Pediatricians can be so different
geographical place to geo-place. Our nursing culture has been changed over
the last 6 yrs thru various new beginnings...IBCLC's and management support
(thank goodness!), (and not that we are close to perfect, we have the same
supplement....and on nights, issue. but, we do have what we can call a solid
group of supporters) Now our Breastfeeding Task Force is talking about
'Baby-Friendly' and thinking of ways to accomplish it. It's our peds that
are in the way of a straight path to this goal. We will brainstorm gentle
ways to move the pediatricians, and on the pathway make changes to
accomplish all but the formula issue, until such a time as we can push
through it. I'm jealous that you have that step on the pathway...that the
peds are supportive, at least in this way. Our peds write for routine
supplement, because they don't understand how to start breastfeeding....so
many opportunities, so little time!
