Barbie,
Anytime there are incisions around the areola the mothers are more at risk
with the milk production or transfer for breastfeeding. The other important
question I've learned to ask mothers who have had breast augmentation is,
what was the breast like before the surgery. If the breast was small or
tubular, the augmentation may disguise insufficient glandular tissue
problems. This, not the surgery can be the problem. Using your
breastfeeding management skills and close observation can help the mother
know if she needs to use supplement milk and if so, help her to find a
balance that allows her to enjoy continued breastfeeding. (I really like the
supplementers at breast for these situations. The breastmilk volume becomes
less a focus as the connection with baby increases.)
