In May 99 Town & Country Magazine (not sure if this is internat'l or just USA) there is an article on p. 178 "Allergies: Nothing to sneeze at" by D. Guernsey and it is very good IMO. I was thumbing thru it while my son got a haircut. It explains all about allergies and asthma, treatment options, food diary keeping, elim diet and re-introduction. It suggests eliminating the most common allergens 1st (milk, wheat, eggs, corn, nuts, suspect foods from the diary, vitamins, and if possible, meds). Towards the end of the lengthy article, it mentions a case of a 12 y.o. in which, on history taking, it was found that the child became symptomatic after weaning from breast @ 8 mos and was found to have a milk allergy. To prevent allergies, it recommends breastfeeding "if possible", no formula or solids to 6 mos, and avoid other common allergenic foods til age 3. Their email is [log in to unmask]
