Looking for some advice with little 3 week old boy who will not breast
feed.  Poor superficial latch in the hospital, really tight jaw, and seemed
content to suck his upper lip.  Infant supplemented with artificial nipple,
mother not comfortable with finger feeding nor SNS not cup feeding.
Discharged on day four (mom had C/S for breech presentation) feeding ebm
via bottle.  Mother content with this arrangement until last week when she
asked for help reintroducing the breast.  Infant seems content and is
gaining weight, but as soon as he gets near the breast he arches his entire
body and screams and hits the breast.  With patience we were able to
achieve a latch with a nipple shield.  Re check two days later and all
seemed well, infant gained 3 oz. but infant not emptying the breasts
completely. Attempts to direct latch achieved the old reaction, arching
screaming.  Mother tried off and on over this weekend to wean off nipple
shield only to have the baby refuse breastfeeding completely.  Both mother
and infant so upset she returned to pumping and bottle feeding.  Both Mom
and Dad are physical therapists and I have suggested that Pediatric
Chiropractic might be a help, after listening to E.Hewitt at the Atlanta
conference, I thought it might be worth a try.  Now I need a referral. Did
anyone get the 800 number at the conference or does anyone know a Ped
chiropractic in Mid Jersey?  I don't know what else to suggest to this
