I need to state my position on IQ testing and scores for the record to avoid any
misunderstandings.

I could care less about IQ or the test.  I come from a child developmental psych
background andthat's where I draw my knowledge of IQ and IQ testing from.

My point in disclosing personal information was to illustrate that there may be
what appears to be a trend but it is doubtful that it means much if it could be
proven to be true.  What would we hope to accomplish with the information if it
were?

I am of the opinion that IQ testing and scores are irrelevant to breastfeeding
when speaking of the benefits of breastfeeding to mothers.  This upsets me
greatly when it is done.  There is far too much focus put on "measurements" when
it comes to our children, why bother with another that simply is intended to
show a potential for learning.  I have a good IQ test score that was done by a
reputable testing lab, as is my son's and my father's, but I also have learning
disabilities and other problems that impede my retention (fortunately, they do
not have these problems).  What does that prove to me......IQ scores are not an
indication of how well a child will or won't do and to make more of the scores
than a potential for learning is a misrepresentation of the tesing and score.

Please, don't add to the pressure on our children and the children of others by
promoting breastfeeding in connection with IQ.  That's all I ask as someone who
has been there.

I will still be looking at the studies on this matter to see how far it will go.
Thanks for all who have responded and those of you who will.  Don't worry, I
rarely make sense either.  And I am not even sick!!!!
