Yesterday I saw (only for the second time) a true case of insufficient
glandular breast tissue. The mother's first two attempts at nursing
failed due to serious weight loss in her infants. After running around
to various doctors seeking answers, she came to me before giving birth
to her third child. We are using an SNS which luckily is working well
for this motivated mom.
I am curious if my client's mother's use of thalidomide could be
responsible for her daughter's problem? Her older sister who was born
in '57 has "deformed" (sorry, but can't think of any other word) uterus
and has had numerous problems with her other reproductive organs.
My client says her mom took thalidomide throughout her entire first
pregnancy and "parts" of her second.
I have seen pictures of the typical thalidomide babies without arms or
legs, but is the drug responsible for other types of health problems?
Besides using the SNS, is there anything else I can do for this mom?
Her milk supply is very low.
