Dear Lactnetters,
I have a post partum Mom who went home yesterday (7/07/03) from the
hospital. After delivery, she had a pain in her mid upper left thigh. The
diagnostic test results stated that she had a superficial blood clot in her thigh.
She went home on ASA (aspirin) therapy. She is currently taking 325mg once
a day for up to 6 weeks. A longer period at this time is unknown. She
currently is breastfeeding. This is her fifth child and has never had any problems
with breastfeeding her other children. She would like to continue to
breastfeed this child too.
My question is how long can someone be on ASA while breastfeeding?
The Thomas Hale book catorgorizes it as a L3. What about Reyes
Syndrome--because of the long term use of the drug and possible build up in the infants
system? What is long term catorgorized as?
Thank you all for any ideas.
