Oh dear -- I am still working with my very
intelligent-willing-to-do-anything to make breastfeeding work mother of two month old. She has had it and is
in tears and wants to wean today and I am running dry with ideas.
Previously, fibrocystic breasts and with breastfeeding experiencing repeated bouts of
plugged ducts and at times, real difficulty nursing or pumping to dissolve
them. Now, she also has been battling thrush which she thought might be the
answer to why she had all these ducts, but Diflucan, etc. has begun to clear
the thrush but the plugged ducts continue to reappear and cause pain and
limited milk flow. In desperation, she returned to her doc this morning but alas,
all was clear and doc said all was fine. Now, she has returned home and all
ducts are plugged again and she is sobbing. She has opened a few blebs this
week as well. She has been on Lecithin, several homeopathic remedies,
vitamins, changing positions, dunking breasts into warm water, massaging, etc. She
has just called me and wants to wean TODAY as she says she cannot take this
anymore and I hear her loud and clear. I am awaiting a call from Mary Rose
Tully to see if she can see her today, but in the meantime, HELP with any ideas
to keep this mom going. I cannot imagine where we would begin weaning with
her extreme sensitivity to engorgement and plugged ducts. Thanks, Ann
