I have a client who just gave birth to her first child after trying to
conceive for 12 years. At two weeks the baby did not return to her
birthweight. I have been closely monitoring this baby. Yes, the baby
nurses well at the breast, 6-8 diapers etc.....The mothers' milk never came
in with a boom...Day 3-4 she felt a little fuller, but never felt that
initial "fullness", her milk came in very slowly during the first week.
This mother had extremely high liver platelet levels right after delivery,
(and they have lowered but still remain high). She heard the doctor tell a
resident that "these levels can act like placenta cells in the
body"??????????? I called Dr. Lawrence's office and they said it was
dangerous to nurse with low liver platelets, but never heard of the effects
of high liver platelets.......We now are supplementing the baby a little,
but this mother would love to be a full-line nurser. Has anyone ever had a
similar case, or has any information about a possible connection?
Everything else with the mother and baby seems fine (yes she is taking
fenugreek, extra pumping with a classic pump, similar breast size,
etc)....Thanks.....Sara Chana in Brooklyn
