Hello,

I am looking for help for a mom with low milk supply. I have permission to
post. I saw mom today for help with low milk supply. Baby is 7 days old,
weight 7lbs. 6oz. About a one pound loss since birth. Ped has mom
supplementing with formula after feeds, as mom is not getting any milk with
hand expression or pump (Lactina). This is the third child and there was
not a lot of milk with any. Baby latches well, good suck, some swallowing.
While taking a history with the mother she tells me that she has issues
with her thyroid. Her thyroid levels are normal per mom. She cannot
remember the name, but says her thyroid bypasses the pituitary and functions
on its own. I feel this is the reason she has had supply issues. She had
sought lactation help in the past, but was never given a satisfactory
response. No one had ever taken a history, so the issue never came up
before. This is not my area of expertise, but I have been researching it.
If anyone can give me ideas on how to proceed I would appreciate it. Thanks.
