I am looking for insight for a situation with a 2 month old who cries
constantly during the day, sleeps OK at night. I saw him in the first week
of life for latch on problems and slow weight gain. He now latches well,
but Mom has to roll his upper lip out to get a deep, pain free latch. He
has gained 3.5 lbs. over his birth weight.

This baby goes from sleep to scream in a split second. He is totally worked
up when he begins to breastfeed, and he keeps up rapid, noisy breathing
throughout the feeding. When he pauses, Mom puts him on her shoulder and he
burps LOUDLY, several times, cries and repeats the rapid breathing while
feeding. Eventually he got 3.8 oz. during 20 minutes, but continued to cry
like he was starving.

Mom loves all sorts of dairy products, so she will eliminate or temper her
intake. I suggested More Milk Tea to get a little fenugreek in to soothe
baby's stomach and maybe increase the flow of milk so he doesn't get so
upset. Mother is exhausted, so I told her to lay down with him to nap and
nurse twice a day. In the evening, he enjoys his bath, so I suggested doing
a warm massage afterward to help him totally relax then nurse off to sleep.
He will wake, scream, nurse and go back to sleep during the night. During
the day he will not nap unless he is in a swing. Those naps last only about
20 minutes. Then it is scream, nurse, scream, nurse. He has good bowel
sounds and a normal elimination pattern for a child of this age.

Am I missing anything? Any further advice for this mother?
