Beadie asked about "a feeding device that resembles the female
breast". I'm sure she's referring to the "Breastbottle" which was
mentioned recently on LN.
We are going to give these a trial for situations when we have been
using a Haberman and also for moms who are not having success trying
to teach baby how to take a bottle (most commonly for mom's return
to work). Cost will be close to that of a Haberman with even fewer
differences from the breast. (Although certainly a far cry from
being the same as the breast.)
Information can be obtained from their website "breastbottle"
On a lighter note. after showing the picture to a couple people at
work, one described it to a friend of hers who immediately wanted to
order one. "So when my husband wants to wake me to play with mine I
can just hand him the breastbottle to play with and I can go back to
sleep." I'm sure that wasn't one of the uses intended by its
inventer!
While I would prefer that babies get nothing but mom, in reality
some are going to be given something else in spite of our
recommendations, so this may be a "lesser evil" than standard
bottles. Will let LN know what feedback we get from moms and nurses
that use it. My fear is that nurses will be too eager to use it
thinking its "OK" as long as it isn't a bottle!
Winnie
