I am as lothe to see the unnecessary use of epidurals as the next person,
and I believe that better pre natal education is needed to prevent the over
use of drugs in labor and childbirth. However, when I had my very necessary
cesarean in Hong Kong, I would have given anything to have been able to have
an epidural. Instead I had general anesthesia because that was what was
used at that hospital. So, instead of seeing my son being lifted from my
body, I woke up in a corridor with a nurse nearby. My first words were "is
my baby alive?" He was and is 5 years later.
