Carol,
I share in your frustrations. Early this year when I took my daughter to her
ped, I found a toy from Enfamil in his office. He and I had a whole
discussion about the subtle messages that this conveys to his clients. I then
proceded to fax him several articles about this, also reminding him this was
against the WHO code, etc.

Well, it was time for my daughter to get her checkup last week, I made him a
poster size photo of a mom breastfeeding a toddler, that I had taken. I had
the photo enlarged, put on poster board with the words, "Breastfeeding, It's
the Best" underneath. I told him it was a gift as long as he posted it, I
also gave him a copy of Jack's book. He did say he had heard one of Jacks
lectures.

Guess what, he still has the toy. I asked him how his moms were doing, and
offered my services if anyone needed help. He told me he lends them videos
and they do very well. Naturally, I inquired which video he was using. Guess
what, surprise (NOT!!) it was distributed by Enfamil. Well, he and I got into
another discussion about this, how it gives his clients the approval from him
that it is ok to use formula.
I am so frustrated, they just don't get it, and this is typical from a
pediatrician on Long Island. They just do not recognize that formulal is NOT
the same as breastmilk.
I feel like I am fighting a losing battle, trying to convince women that they
don't need an epidural to deliver, and that breastfeeding is best for their
babies.
But.... I am a fighter and will never give up trying!!!!!
