Here's another case where the criteria for breastfeeding are
different than for other areas of health education.
Don't we talk about "Hazards of smoking" rather than "Advantages of
not smoking". Or how about "Risks of alcohol consumption during
pregnancy" rather than "Advantages of not drinking during
pregnancy". Who would ever talk to parents about "advantages of not
shaking a baby"? Of coursenot, we talk about the risks of shaking
babies and post signs in OB rooms saying "NEVER NEVER NEVER Shake a
baby!". Yet there is this hesitance to present infant feeding in
the same context.

Certainly there are many ways we can cite the disadvantages of
artificial feeding. There are some audiences where it might not be
presented as "in your face" as with other audiences. However, e do
need to work on the mindset (which many of us, myself included, have
really ingrained in us) of looking at bottlefeeding as the
reference (norm). This mindset is so ingrained in our culture that
it is necessary to consciously present info from the "breastfeeding
as the reference (norm). Who will do it if we dont?
