I submitted an alternate feeding plan, cup feeding. I am just tired of
parents complaining their baby won't nurse after all of those bottles. I am
meeting great resistance. Especially from the Drs, etc who haven't even read
the protocol/recommendation! I used the info from Marie B.'s new book:
Breastfeeding the Newborn (I don't have it in front of me at the moment).
The speech pathologist/audiologist told me she has never heard of cup feeding
being safe and she is the feeding specialist and a normal healthy newborn
should never ever be cup fed! I listed references from the book and the
hospital Librarian is trying to get them for me (I explained I didn't make
this up)!

Any hospitals out there have protocols? Please email me at: [log in to unmask]
I only want to have it available to parents who are committed to
breatfeeding, etc. I am not expecting the nurses to do this with every baby!
 One step at a time!

I am on my way to N. Carolina to help my 3 day old nephew get his nursing act
together! My 42 yr old brother and 32 yr old sil (first baby) aren't feeding
often enough, broken down nipples, low output, etc and the hospital is not
helpful, no lactation staff. Getting a pump will be about as difficult.
Hopefully, we won't need one. Lots of help over the phone and only one good
full diaper in over 8 hours. Wish me luck. Her parents are there and not
supportive of the breastfeeding.....I had better take a deep breath before I
get there tomorrow eve!

I will have a full mail box by Friday when I return!
