Hi Flossier,
I took a pistil marksmanship class when I was in college. The first day of
class it was stressed that if you are pregnant or might possibly get
pregnant not to take the class. A pregnant woman was not even allowed to
visit the firing range. We were told that when firing a gun in a closed off
(inside) firing range that we would be breathing in lead particles that
would be harmful to developing babies. Lactation was never mentioned but I
believe that had to do with our bottle-feeding culture not because it was
safe. The firing range at the school was old and not equipped with newer
ventilation systems. I don't remember anything about handling bullets. It
seemed to be mostly a concern about the lead concentrations in a closed
in-not properly ventilated space.
I hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Donna from Alaska
