Hello, my name is Carla Parry and I am a long time lurker and infrequent poster. I am a Rn IBCLC in Lakeland Florida. I work prn at the local hospital as an LC. My predecessor at the hospital, an RN, IBCLC candidate questioned me about this very topic about a month and 1/2 ago.

Apparently our nurse educator (for perinatal services) came to her and said she had been to the Enfamil Lipil Nurses' Conference and a doctor, who is an IBCLC, spoke and how very impressed she was with her. She said her name was Joan Meek and she was local (Orlando). I myself could not believe this as, Dr. Meek has been a frequent speaker at the Florida Lactation Consultants Associations conferences and quarterly meetings. I asked her if she had a conference brochure as I was sure she had gotten the name and credential wrong. ( By the way, this nurse educator did not know what the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative was).

I have the conference schedule of speakers and titles. I also have the power point presentation from Joan Y. Meek MD, MS, RD, IBCLC entitled "Feeding your Baby"
The first screen is tilted- Infant Formula Selection: How to give Appropriate Advice (What do the protein, carbohydrates, and fat have to do with it?)
The objectives are as follows:
Be able to describe the general types and categories of formulas.
Be able to give appropriate advice to patients regarding most formula selection.

There has been no discussion on our local affiliate listserve.

I
just don't know what to think.

If this is her, I am truly shocked.

Carla Parry RN IBCLC
