Hi Ya'll,

Maybe I am reading this message in the wrong light, Please forgive if I am,
but something just does not see quit right here. Let me start by saying
that I am a strong believer in supporting all breastfeeding moms and have no
problems with nursing in public. But the text seems to imply that Mom was
extremely exposed, or as my son would say " letting it ALL Hang Out". The
picture I have in my mind both from myself personally nursing and others
that I have noticed in public is not offensive. It was discrete, in good
taste and with modesty. Were these moms listed in the example without
modesty or overly exposed?

I remember taking my then 3 year old son to Disney World. While taking him
to the ladies room he noticed a lady holding her infant just outside in the
shade of a large tree. Loving babies as he did he wanted to go see and hold
the baby too. Mom was discretely nursing for all the world to see and no
one was disturbing her. Of course I had to explain to my son that the baby
was having his lunch too and didn't want to be disturbed right now. The
mother hearing my simple explanation smiled and went on about her feeding.
No one seem to notice what she was doing and neither would I had I not done
so myself and worked with nursing moms. My point being, that this picture
was not "vulgar, in bad taste, or offensive". Now if I open some magazine,
turn on the TV to some soap operas, MTV or that guy on late night TV with
the "dare you to go naked" "Shock Jock" material, I would and DO find that
offensive. There is a difference in exhibitionism, filth and plan old
Porn. Were these mom's in this category or were these court cases just the
extreme?

I admit I am a little behind in my readings due to death and illness in the
family. Maybe that is why this posting seems odd.

Always reading and learning
Ann Slaughter

"What many people do not know is that breastfeeding in public is legal in
every state. A mother does not need to "cover up" or go somewhere more
private. More than half of states have laws specifically protecting this
right, but even in those that do not, it is still legal to breastfeed in
public."
