Anne,
Thanks for letting me (along with others on Lactnet) know that this is
happening in the US! I get so discouraged at times when I realize how many
thousands of moms and babies are subjected to a system that doesn't really
facilitate mother baby bonding (and the mothers don't seem to notice most of
the time!). I'm reassured that some places it's working. I've believed for
a long time that Michigan (I hope I'm getting the MI right) is more
progressive than most other states (esp. TX) when it comes to social
programs and health care reforms. This week in Austin we've learned that
the only two CNM practices in town are shutting down. So a midwife attended
hospital birth will no longer be an option to the women of our area. Too bad
I'd never tolerate your winters.
Thanks again -- consider yourself lucky to be in a more "natural"
environment.
Warmly (literally),
Dawn Martin
Austin, TX
