People (read my health professional peers and supervisors) thought I was
crazy to want to leave the hospital a mere 16 hours after giving birth to
my son but if I could have left sooner I would have because of stupid
policies like this. My husband had to nearly kidnap our son from the
nursery so that I could nurse him, which still ended up being about 45
minutes after the birth. The nurses were finishing their assessments. He
was away from me again at shift change times 2 so that the nurses and
doctors could do their assessments. Do it at the bedside! Fortunately I'm
giving birth this time in a hospital that practices mother baby nursing and
encourages rooming in 24 hours a day, especially for BF moms and I can go
home as soon as six hours after birth.

Hot ( and not just from the humidity and pregnancy) in rural Northeast
