I've been thinking about how I plan to handle this if the situation ever
arises down the road, and have been reading the LLL guidelines.
Is it unreasonable to use a different name for your LC services (name or
street name Lactation Services or something) and have a different phone
number? Sometimes it doesn't even require a separate line; a different
ring might be sufficient. Not too expensive, if you don't have special
features added to that number -- you can always make long distance
calls, etc. from the other line, blocking your name or number display.
This way, mothers would either be calling the number they see on the LLL
posters / info. or the other one, with no confusion.
The guidelines suggest that it is the initial contact that counts the
most, i.e. if a mother phones LLL, no matter what services you provide
thereafter are voluntary. If, on the other hand, she contacts you as an
LC and discovers you are an LLLL, I think it is reasonable to suggest
that your relationship with her is as an LC. I suppose there may be some
crossover, if someone calls you once as an LC and then ends up being an
active Group worker or something, but obviously any questions she asks
at meetings would be answered in your LLLL role. I imagine PLs have more
info. about this kind of thing (and may well be in that situation
themselves). If you find out, please post!
