I've just been reading the copy of Breastfeeding Review - the professional
journal of the Nursing Mothers' Association of Australia - (Vol 5 No 2
1997) that arrived late last year (it had been buried deep on my desk!).
Catherine Fetherston, from Western Australia, has written two great
research papers on mastitis (pp5-11 and 13-19). She followed a cohort of
306 breastfeeding mothers for the first three months postpartum and found a
cumulative incidence rate of mastitis of 27.1%. She has collected lots of
detail about symptoms and management.
This is the sort of research that I had been saying was lacking! Congrats
to Catherine!
