I'm no-mail right now because my first-born is getting MARRIED in a week.
(I'm just the mother of the groom, but the wedding is here, not there, and
much more of a joint family wedding than most.)

But I had to pass along something that keeps nagging at me.

I just changed my "First Week Breastfeeding Log" from "Day 1", "Day 2", etc
to "Day 1 (before baby is 1 day old)", "Day 2 (baby is 1 day old)", and so
on, up through "Day 7 (baby is 6 days old)."

Do parents (or even health care providers) really get it that a baby is only
4 days old on Day 5? That the transition diapers we expect to see on Day 3
or 4 should be happening when a baby is 2 or 3 days old?

It doesn't matter by Day 12 or so, but in those early days, when a day makes
a difference, I really suspect we're not making ourselves understood.
Especially if parents don't start paying attention until a few days after
birth.

Even though I've fretted about this for some years, I had a moment of utter
surprise when I realized my own "One Week Log" actually takes a baby through
6 days of age. I'd just never thought about it until I put a "translation"
next to each day!

What prompted me to change my log, after stewing for so long, was reading
the obits in today's paper. Someone died "in her 90th year". I'd give a
pretty penny to know if she was actually 89... or 90.
