Dear Lactnet Friends:

Here's a quote from a recent post. "Take a postpartum hormonal mother, and
then tell her she cannot get any formula for her baby...I would hate to be
the one to say no. While I hate to imply that this could cause someone to
go violent, I can imagine some very distraught moms & dads reacting in ways
we just would not want in clinic."

Why has the healthcare system or big business been given the responsibility
for feeding her baby? The time to tell women that the days of formula
giveaways are over is before they become pregnant. If you have a baby, you
have the responsibility to raise it. Our job as a society is to help you
raise your baby; give you support and encouragement and practice advice,
especially as her body will make the food for that baby, most of the time.

Such a monumental situation that's gone on for so long that people are
disconnected from reality; school children think vegetables come from cans
or freezers, and health care professionals are shocked to learn that
formula most often comes from cows.

Speechless....how do we get people to become responsible for their actions
when we've had several generations of others will to take over that
responsibility....for a profit?

sigh.

warmly,
