Please tell your friend not to quit breastfeeding. Breastfeeding has nothing to
do with her abnormal Pap smear or cervical dysplasia. Her physician is VERY
uninformed and needs updating. Please encourage her to get a second opinion.
Her condition is serious, but is treatable.

It is very likely that her abnormal pap or cervical dysplasia is caused by the
Human Papilloma Virus or HPV.

There are several good websites that explain this. Go to:
http://www.cdc.gov/std/hpv/STDFact-HPV-vaccine.htm. Or
http://www.maketheconnection.org/default.asp. I suggest she give these to
her physician.

Current treatment recommendations are based on where the abnormal cells are
located. If they are on the outside of her cervix then she can have
cryotherapy. If her ECC were + (inside the cervix) than should may need a
LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure).

Please let me know what happens.
