I have searched the archives and found 2 inquiries in 1995 but no responses.

I have a mom of a 6day old baby who reports her milk began to smell "like
body odor" today. This is milk from the breast, not pumped milk. She has
also reported transient burning sensation from the armpit toward the breast
that occured in each breast at different times. Normal initial nipple
tenderness is improving.

I discussed possibility of ductal spasms, yeast, or mastitis as a cause of
the burning sensation, and suggested she watch for developing symptoms. We
discussed dietary influences on milk odor.

Anyone know of a link between milk odor from the breast and some condition
of the breast?
