It is possible that the herb Dong Quai referred to is *dang gui*, which is
a uterine stimulant often used as a general tonic after childbirth and
should NOT be used during pregnancy, nor should it be used by diabetics
because of its sugar content. Squaw Vine is DEFINITELY a uterine stimulant
and must be avoided during pregnancy. Ginseng should really also be avoided
although American ginseng is not as dangerous as Chinese or Korean; don't
know about the Siberian. I have no reference for it.

I don't think she should take this preparation, not only because of what's
in it but also because it is never completely safe for pregnant women to
take so many herbs in combination.

Hello all.I,m coming out of lurk mode again here in Kuala Lumpur with a
question.I've been approached by a newly arrived newly pregnant expat who
is keen to learn more about breastfeeding, she's a primip. She's taking a
multivitamin daily with 400 mcg. of folic acid which is good but I'm a bit
concerned about a couple of the other ingredients.
 Vitus agnus-castus 50mg

Dong Quai 20mg.
Damiana 50mg.
 Uva Ursi 20mg.
Squaw Vine 20mg.
Blessed Thistle 20mg.
Oat Straw 50mg
Bee Pollen 50mg.
Siberian Ginseng 50mg.
Royal Jelly 5mg.
PhytOx Rosemary Extract50mg.

I would be grateful if anyone out there knowledgeable on the herb front
could give me more info. on the suitability of this during pregnancy and
breastfeeding.Many thanks.
