Cathy asks for pros and especially cons of the Pump in Style and the Purely
Yours breastpumps. I see no reason why what I have to say can't be said in
public but I will also send this to Cathy privately. I'm interested if
others have similar pros and cons that they can share with the group as moms
do ask for our recommendations.

The Pump In Style has available for purchase at an additional cost a
rechargeable battery but can't use standard batteries. This is a nice
advantage to the mom who needs to use batteries on a regular basis. For the
mom who doesn't need this option normally the lack of ability to use
standard batteries is a disadvantage. The Purely Yours can use AA
batteries. This is an advantage for the mother who may only rarely need to
use batteries (for instance in an electric power loss).

The Pump In Style (older model) requires only the unzipping of a small port
to plug in the tubing, the pump doesn't have to be removed. The Purely
Yours must be removed from the case which takes a little bit more time for
set up. For a very time pressed working mother that may be an important
point. For someone with limited space not having to remove the pump may be
another advantage.

The Pump in Style retails for about $50 more than the Purely Yours around
here. This is significant for many moms.

The Pump in Style has a new configuration available that makes the carry
case emulate a backpack instead of a briefcase. I've only seen pictures of
this. I can see where that could be an advantage for some moms.

They are both effective double pumps for mothers with a good milk supply who
are getting some direct breastfeeding as well. The feedback from mothers
about the comfort and results from both seem comparable.

When moms ask me about pumps and if this type of pump is what they are
looking for, in their budget and when their situation doesn't call for a
rental (in my opinion) then I am comfortable with either brand. I tell the
moms the pros and cons as above and advice them to pick the one they prefer
then call around until they find that particular brand instead of accepting
whatever the store or practice they are using has on hand or in stock.

Carla
