Responding to a bit of the WBW Goal for 2003, a short piece....I would say
that a continued threat to breastfeeding practice is the unprofessional
attitude that our own health care professionals sometimes take when it
comes to breastfeeding. This is nurses, doctors, dieticians, and lactation
consultants in some cases. The attitudinal beliefs that may be erroneous,
and based only on personal experience, and which color all that we say and
do with regard to our care of breastfeeding mothers can either be a help or
a very bad hindrance to breastfeeding success in the mothers we work with.

And, unethical financial relationships such as exist between the AAP and
the formula company should be exposed for what it is. Barnyard waste. It
is a pity that the breastfeeding committee at the AAP has been so ill
treated by their own colleagues who are calling *those* shots, and
allowing the entire organization to be sullied by the bad choices of a
small group.
