This practice of weighing to see how much the baby is taking in is also
useful in other situations. Today I consulted with a mom of a 4 day old
readmitted to Pediatrics with jaundice, under double phototherapy. Her milk
was in and she was pumping and bottle feeding (only in America!!!) They were
concerned about how they could know what she was getting at the breast. I
brought in the baby weigh and showed them how to use it. They were more
comfortable not supplementing if they could be assured she was drinking
enough at the breast.
