Hi Jan
Before I even got very far into your post, I was thinking "I bet this mom
has oversupply." I have a client right now who has been exclusively pumping
for a premie and has oversupply issues too, a couple times has had mastitis
in 5 wks.
I would recommend decreasing her supply gradually by lengthening the
interval between pumping sessions and/or decreasing the amounts of milk
removed, as tolerated.
The mom I am working with recently transitioned the baby to breast with a
nipple shield, when baby got to due date (was 35 wks) and close to 7 pounds.
Your client might consider transitioning to direct bf as well.
