Hi Lara,
I think that we do not know how many women are physically incapable of
making enough milk. The 5% figure is quoted often but repetition does not
make it more substantative. There are plenty of papers written on perceived
insufficient milk syndrome and a look reveals that as you would expect there
are many factors that can lead to a woman not having enough milk and that it
is often difficult to acertain just what the reasons are. However, having
spent some time in the last week talking to a new mum who really appears to
have a physiological problem that prevents her making beyond drops I wish
that there was a medical speciality responsible for this organ who could
help to work out what the problem was.
