Yesterday Dr. Laura (a radio personality) advised a woman who was calling
to say that her daughter nursed everywhere! In restaurants, in stores, in
homes, wherever she was...(imagine!) At first I thought that the woman's
daughter was the one doing the nursing but it was a grandmother calling. She
informed Dr. Laura that her daughter said it was her "right " to nurse her
child wherever she wanted. (Gee, perhaps she lives in New York State where
it actually is a civil right!)

Needless to say Dr. Laura was mortified at the daughter's lack of modesty
and consideration for others and recommended that the grandmother take her
daughter by the arm and escort her from the room, reminding her to think of
the needs of others. (What about the BABY? Would the advice to be to escort
her from the room if she were feeding her child a bottle?)

It makes me sad and it makes me tired. I know that Dr. Laura has has the
that breastfeeding is indeed a right in many states as I faxed it to her.
Sigh.

A breastfeeding mother, not an advocate, told me today that you cannot
expect breastfeeding rates to rise until there are more professionals out
there to support a mother getting started.

Well, thank goodness for those of you who ARE out there!
