Jessica, there is a lot of frustration when mothers are not followed and
assisted properly.   It is not the nipple shield, per se, as that is a
tool, but it is the improper and scanty assistance that is offered
afterwards, and the fact that they are offered at times in
appropriately...as a subsitute for skilled breastfeeding help.

I would suggest that you look at posts on this in the archives from Jack
Newman and Barbara WIlson Clay for some really good and thoughtful posts.
