I've had a very busy week and again I'm very far behind on lactnet.
However I did have two big successes.

1. at a dept meeting I proposed we stop giving formula in discharge gifts to breastfeeding moms, motion was approved.

2. We had a baby with transitant tachypnea of the newborn who was an infant of a diabetic mom and had terrible veins for an IV start.. Being fearful at 2 hrs old he would get hypogylcemic I figured a docotor has to do what a doctor has to do, informed consent, I spoke to his mom, who was going to bottle fed, and asked if she had considered breastfeeding, because it would really help keep him from droping his blood sugar and the way he is breathing right now he can not bottle feed but he can breastfed. Mom gave it a try and this 36 week baby who had been given bag positve pressure breaths at delivery, had an NG tube, blood draws and hadnt seen mom in almost 2 hrs latched and fed beautifully!
