It's true that anyone can call themselves a Lactation Consultant, they just
can't use the initials IBCLC. But why is this? People can't call
themselves a nurse or a physician or a social worker or a physical
therapist etc. without the required training.
For example, as a social worker with a masters degree, I put MSW after my
name and LCSW to show that I passed the licensing exam. Is there anything
that can be done to make the term Lactation Consultant less easy to use?
