Babies are pretty clear about what causes them distress.  If this was causing
distress, then they'd be screaming, wouldn't go on, etc etc.  It's pretty
clear that what people are describing is neither stressful or forceful.

In the cases I've seen, this simply isn't happening.  I did this with my own
baby and ended up with severe nipple damage b/c she simply *wasn't* openign
her mouth.   This is the kind of thing that stops breastfeeding
relationships.  When a slight bit of pressure on baby's chin can get a wide
open mouth, a good latch and pain free nursing, it seems silly not to use it
when, at times, the alternative would be to allow baby to nurse with a partly
open mouth and poor latch until baby 'decided' to open on her own, or until a
chiro, or c-s therapist could be found.
