I have been out of touch due to a computer change which let me receive
lactnet messages, but rejected all my comments. However, I tried not to
take it personally, and have finally made peace with the thing and am
allowed to talk back now.
The subject at hand is that I have an opportunity to work as an LC
in a NICU on a per diem basis and think I would like to do this. The
only holdup, according to my contact at the hospital, is that they
aren't sure what to pay me since I'm not a nurse. The present job
description says that LCs should be RNs and will be paid along the same
pay scale. Do you have any additional duties more than the nurses? or
different from them?
My question is: are any RDs out there working as LCs in a hospital
setting? Would you be willing to email me (privately) with your
salary? I have a masters degree in nutrition, am an RD, and have been
an LC for 10 years. I have worked at the hospital where I certified
women onto the WIC program and made rounds on the maternity floor
helping women to breastfeed, plus have been a bf coordinator at WIC for
>5 yr, and currently use my lactation skills in private practice and in my work as nutritionist with Special Needs children for the State.
What do you think I might be worth!!! email michelle scott at
