How does she know she has Hashimoto's? The definitive diagnosis is the
presence of antibodies to her thyroid or it's products in her blood. Just
checking TSH, T3 and T4 won't do it. I went undiagnosed for several years
before I finally went to an endocrinologist who knew what he was talking
about.

After all my pregnancies, I had postpartum thryoiditis. It means that the
increased production of thyroid hormone during pregnancy, doesn't back off
after delivery. I was told it was common in women with Hashimoto's. For me
it meant that I stopped taking Synthroid for 6 months and had one or two
"periods" in the first 2 months. Once I leveled out, I went back on
medication and my periods stopped for a few years. I never had a problem
with milk supply, and actually still produced drops for almost 5 years after
weaning.

Hashimoto's is an autoimmune disease. Perhaps if the thyroid couldn't keep
up production of hormone, the TSH levels would rise to try to increase
production, but I don't know if that would affect lactation. But if she's
got postpartum thyroiditis, her levels should be high right now. I have a
feeling something else is going on.
