I was surprised to see on Lactnet Ellen Vegh's long and offensive-defensive
attack on Kathy Dettwyler re thumbsucking. Let's try to be
professionals here. I've been off the net for a relatively long
time, but I don't recall anyone before taking an observation as
personal criticism. For example, the family bed didn't work for
me, but I never got the feeling that I fell in my colleague's
esteem or was not worthy because of it. Contrary-wise, my kids
never sucked either thumbs or pacifiers, but I have long
recognized the validity of kids with higher needs than mine.
I was greatly disturbed by the violence and emotionality of
Ellen's post. Bearing in mind that my prime minister was murdered
a month ago, and the national soul-searching motto is "No to
violence", especially meaning verbal violence, I found this post
very upsetting personally.
Let's be friendly, let's support and not attack each other - and
certainly not swear at each other, leaving spaces or not. That is
childish and unprofessional. I was very disappointed. Judy Knopf
