Dear Leslie, I have a couple of ?s that you might want to consider in dealing
with your mom with nipple pain-how clear cut were the mastitis s/s ie. fever,
chills etc. or s/s less distinguishable from yeast? Is the pain confined
solely to the nipple at this pt.? Regardless, i think I would still suggest
rx for ductal yeast at this time rather than abandoning nursing on that side.
I had a mom with somewhat similar scenario ie. vague nipple and br. pain that
waxed and waned for several weeks, the mom was getting concerned about her
round the clock use of ibuprofen, and literally tracked down an MD that
would prescribe diflucan, she had some relief after one week of Rx and was
pain free after 2.
