>>Diane Wiessinger, MS, IBCLC, LLLL Ithaca, NY
who thought, when she signed her Lactation Consultant's Declaration, that
avoiding the formula companies was simple.<<

Diane--
I was stumped as I read your post, and sharing your dismay; then, I read your
signature. It's been a while, but we do have a commitment, almost a vow, not
to accept formula co. funding, don't we? Is it with ILCA, or IBLCE? At any
rate, this just might be your out. Call the nurse up and explain to her that
*she* has put you in a difficult spot. Explain to her that, as a member of
ILCA, she has put you in a difficult spot: you *cannot* participate in a
breastfeeding program that is sponsored by a formula company. Tell her that
had you known about the sponsorship sooner, you would never have committed to
this particular program. Express your dismay and disappointment that you may
be prevented from doing the lecture by this conflict, and your desire to be
able to teach her nurses. I think that the ball should be in her court and
*she* should be put on the defensive, not you! Seems a little sneaky to me,
the "oh by the way" stuff. I wonder if this was innocent, or if it was
contrived.
