Hi,

Tentatively posting as there are lots of people with more experience of this than me. But if they are not reading over Easter hols and you are only around with your niece for a few days maybe I should email something.

Skin to skin contact is a great way of overcoming the difficulties you are describing. Basically putting baby unclothed between mum's unclothed breasts and letting baby find nipple.

There are much better descriptions in the following links

http://www.biologicalnurturing.com/ by Suzanne Colson.

http://www.llli.org/llleaderweb/LV/LVFebMar04p3.html article by Diane Wiessinger.

And here is an article if for if the baby is taking formula in the bottle http://www.lowmilksupply.org/finishatthebreast.shtml by Diana West and Lisa Marasco.

Dr Christina Smillie's DVD is fantastic if you can get a copy http://www.geddesproduction.com/breast-feeding-baby-led.html.

Skin-to-skin contact has saved lots of breastfeeding relationships.

Best wishes,

Sarah McCann.
