I know hydrogel dressings have been discussed in length as I checked the
archives. BUT I do have a concern: I called the Clearsite company to
reorder a box of hydrogel dressings (which I have found to work beautifully
for open wounds of the nipple, after correcting the problem that caused them
of course) and the marketing agent I talked to said she needed to inform me
of this: As of today the dressings have not been approved by the FDA for
lactating mothers. A Dr. gave a conference on breastfeeding and shared an
article from a study back in 1983 that proved propylene glycol had caused
siezures in preterm infants. This agent informed me there IS propylene
glycol in the hydrogel dressings. She recommended if I still wanted to order
them to be sure and tell all mothers to wash the breast before and after
application. WELL needless to say I didn't reorder and still considering
what our office should do. Anybody else have comments and or what they may
do regarding these dressings?
Thanks for listening ears
