Dear all
I have been asked to post to the list on behalf of a Japanese doctor/IBCLC
who is unable to write in English.
1. She is writing a Journal article as an IBCLC, for publication in a local
journal on perinatal care. In Japan, the only effective pumps available are
Medela pumps. There are some midwives/IBCLCs who have entered into
financially beneficial contracts with Medela to act as pump rental stations.
The doctor would like to hear others' suggestions on what she could write
about the conflict of interest that arises when IBCLCs operate in this dual
role of Medela pump rental stations and Lactation Consultants.
2. Is it considered acceptable to publish a photograph of a Medela Symphony
pump, even without its brand name, in this Journal? She wanted to use the
photo as an example of the sort of pump that is available in Japan. (In fact
it is the only decent one).
3. If brand name products such as Medela's SNS, or drugs such as
bromocriptine (known buy the brand Parlodel in Japan) are mentioned in an
article, is it necessary to declare that the author has no financial
relationship with these companies? If it is necessary to declare this, what
would be considered the appropriate wording?

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
Best wishes
Iona Macnab
