Lisa, your post of May 30 was great. I'm with you all the way.
Even though I myself will probably never sit for the IBCLC, I
believe that someone who has passed it and is truly
conscientious, should be very firm about those not meeting
standards. Educating the public and HPs as to what these
standards are is very important, of course.
I already messaged why I will probably never sit for the IBCLC,
but I have a question that has bothered me for a while. Would
someone please explain why recertification every 5 years?
Doctors, nurses, physiotherapists etc. do not have manditory
recertification. Certainly I have met a few physicians who are
in dire need of proving their competence again (and who would
probably fail recertification), but is the IBCLC trying to be
"too good"? Maybe those "agin us" see this as a defensive
mechanism, a sign of insecurity?
I hope that I will be hearing feedback to my suggestion of
varying competence levels of the IBCLC, since I WOULD be
interested in a lower level which would meet my needs, since I
am effectively blocked from becoming or functioning as an IBCLC
as now defined. Lisa, thanks again. Judy Knopf
