Elizabeth,
The baby is not having bloody stools from breastfeeding, The baby is having bloody stools b/c he has a damaged gut.
His gut may be damaged b/c the mother ate/eats a poor diet, b/c he is being exposed to damaging proteins or antigens from the foods she
eats, b/c he was born in hospital where his first exposure to flora was not his mother's and/or b/c he had exposure to artificial milk, and likely b/c
his mother's gut is damaged.

Soy is a horrible option. Mom needs to eliminate allergens and continue breastfeeding. I usually have babies muscle-tested, but when I
cannot do that, I look very closely at mom's diet for likely culprits. It's a good bet you can start with cow protein and gluten and move on
from there. This kid will have a lifetime of problems if mom goes the route suggested by her ped.

Hi everyone. I am a BF Peer Counselor at WIC, and one of my client's baby's is
having bloody stools from BFing. I couldn't find anything in the BAB, but I
know I remember reading somewhere that this could be an allergic reaction to
either the mother's milk, or something in the mother's diet that the baby is
allergic to. Could anyone point me in the direction to help this mom figure this
out?

She is currently pumping and freezing her milk, but her Dr. gave the baby an
Rx for soy formula. Baby was born on 2-10.

Thanks for your help.
